Artist Statement
“Disconnected” shows how Nik pictures the isolation feelings on a small buoyant ball during pandemic situation with a humorous approach. The metaphors of big fish in a tank, and the astronaut portrayed by himself wearing a protective fishbowl-like astronaut helmet, shows how all the freedom that we took for granted all this time has been restricted to ‘stay-home-only’ movement. For some people, when they went back from shopping, they still feel paranoid of the lurking virus everywhere on the plastic bags, shirts, and everything since it has been reported that the virus still alive under room temperature for 9 hours.

Invitation for The First Round

Acrylic on Canvas

Artist Statement
‘Invitation for the First Round’ portrayed the chaotic and intense moment between a boxer and an ape, fighting, while breaking the pots of the plant. The artwork tells the idea about the artist’s interest in action movies and an adaptation of a fighting scene into the painting.
Other than its original meaning, fighting can also mean the struggles from the inside, such as depression, weakness, creative block, etc. Grew up watching all these seventies to nineties Hong Kong movies (Bruce Lee or Jackie Chan) or American action movies such as Rocky sequels, these movies have always being the all-time favorites, hence, being the inspiration behind this artwork.
