CIMB Artober aims to support artists by improving the marketplace, preserving livelihoods and the economic viability of our local arts community.

Wolves as the predators of small mammals but sheep is a meek animal, and they are usually quiet and gentle. In a herd, all the sheep tend to listen to their leaders or predators and follow the command given. Because of their obedient character, sheep are one of the most beloved animals of humans and this can see as a weakness to their characteristics. We can see the sheep culture in people’s behaviour too, who tend to follow the herd and do what most people do. Most likely following the government’s rules without questioning the objective behind them.

In 6th June 2021, the iconic colonial restaurant Coliseum Cafe is closing its doors permanently due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. This pre-war heritage building was opened in 1921 in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman in the heart of the city centre, and this historic eatery that served Hainanese Western-style cooking and colonial-era food.
The Coliseum Cafe KL had weathered many significant milestones and stood tall throughout the British colonial rule, the Japanese occupation, Malaya’s Independence, the formation of Malaysia and the Millennium. However, unfortunately it could not celebrate for the 100th anniversary.
As a child, I used to visit here and having many good moments. furthermore, it was always a treat to see smartly dressed waiters with an old nostalgia feel to it.
The Deluge, an overwhelming amount of water (something in general), or symbol such as time, people, development, question. However, in particular in 2020 it means a wave crisis of Covid-19 pandemic.
I always desire to recreate the experience of looking at a landscape or a horizon, observe the people, activities, behaviours happening on the land, and also attaching political context approaches in the Artworks.
The Artworks are about the changes, how Malaysia’s government collapsed, how Malaysia’s business collapsed, and how people’s life collapsed in two years.
There is a poem about the backdoor government:
With his emotions for her inscribed on the paper
Love and hate; Joy and anger
It slips out of his grasp into the void
Be upon a fate they dare not avoid
Reaching out
The fear of losing it
Stronger than the fear of falling into the darkness beyond
She reaches out to him despite their diminishing bond

This Lembaga Series is Arikwibowo’s latest series in 2021, inspired by the new norms in Malaysia. According to Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, ‘Lembaga’ means the original form, the mould or print or the shape of something (which is less clear in appearance).
This repetition process is like a meditation or worship for him, because the act is not just a repetition of the same act, even in order, the act must follow a certain order.
The use of the image of Parliament as his manifestation towards political polymath happens in Malaysia. As Malaysians, all law enforcement discussed at Parliament, but it did not happen. The politicians are still fighting over their power instead of looking after the welfare of society. He brings out every Malaysian’s hope by using various materials in his work and each material represents a hope.
