Tajuddin Ismail
Tajuddin Ismail
born on 26 October 1949 in Negeri Sembilan.
Currently lives in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Nature is his prime inspiration due to his appreciation of God’s creations as sustenance of life on earth, which he truly appreciates. The greatness of nature’s wonder can make one ponder on its beauty and tranquility. Hence, Tajuddin’s art uses a mixture of lines, colours and geometric shapes to portray the time and space of nature in a serene poetic visual language that is very well structured, yet lyrical.
For Tajuddin, the work of art is the visual manifestation of the artist’s intellectual journey. In this context, his work is a reflection of his experiences and worldview, his spiritual values, his artistic sensibility, his dreams and most importantly his self-identity.

Artist Statement
Inspired by the works of the famous Post-Impressionist French painter Paul Gauguin (1843 – 1910), who spent many years in Tahiti, painting the rustic life of the local natives, set against the charming backdrops of idyllic tropical landscapes. Gauguin’s muted palette of deep vibrant hues resonates with my own colour sensibilities expressing a feeling of contemplative calmness. `

Inspired from an old classic song by Louis Amstrong (1960s) – this work expresses an uplifting feeling of ‘Hope, Peace and Tranquility’.
The rhythmic composition of complex colour relationships is complemented by a unique signature style of painting processes and techniques.

Acrylic on Wood Panel
2017
Artist Statement
A complex composition of textured and layered painterly ‘mark making’, this painting exudes a beautiful patina and a sense of ‘timelessness’.
Reflecting further into the work draws a sense of illusive recollection of memories lingering deep in our thoughts and emotion.

The round paintings were first made in the early 90s. It was an attempt to shift away from the ‘Grid’ composition of the early 80s.
