G13 Project Room : PEEKABOO a showcase by Chong Soon Leong

Project Room is in its seventh installment and G13 gallery is proud to present Chong Soon Leong, a young painter from Malacca. Chong Soon Leong has participated in a few group exhibitions under G13 gallery in the past since graduated from University of the West of England, Bristol in 2014.

’Peekaboo’, just like the name suggest is inspired an infant game which serves as a reflection on the future generation of Malaysia by the artist. Through ‘Peekaboo’, the artist highlights the children’s innocence in most of his artworks through a series of cheerful portrayal of children in playful poses. The artist would like to convey the message of peace, harmony and unity within the people of Malaysia which practices different culture and belief since its independence. Chong Soon Leong uses children as his primary subject as they are not bounded by race, skin color, religion, custom and beliefs.

Peekaboo will feature seven oil paintings from Chong Soon Leong. The artist portrays mostly full-figure portraits of children. The artist also implements a lot of colorful cultural imageries in the background while being balanced by white carving and scratching to counter-balance the space of the painting. ‘Peekaboo’ is a showcase exhibition by Chong Soon Leong, a program by Project Room.
