‘Boxes of Life’, a Trirat Sriburin showcase by Project Room – 25th May – 8th June 2017
Project Room was first launched back in August of 2016 with its first two participants, Raimi Sani and Azizul Nasir. It serves as a new platform under G13’s recently expanded space with the sole intention of promoting new talents and reintroducing fresh and innovative artistic direction to the local industry. Now, Project Room is back with its third installment that features an emerging artist who hailed from Thailand, Trirat Sriburin.
The artist believes that most city inhabitants are made up of those people who came from suburbs and rural areas trying to make a living in the city. With the rapid growth of population, people are resorted to reside in an urban setting which prioritizes and utilizes space to its potential unlike their former residents. The definition of ‘home’ no longer resonates to its previous meaning through a change of scenery and the circumstances that comes with it.
‘Boxes of Life’ highlights six paintings that documented the aesthetics of urban housing through portrayal of a series of balconies. Despite sharing same design language, the look of the balconies may vary from one to another. Trirat believes that the difference is an indirect reflection to personality. The outcome of space adornment (or lack thereof) can be used as a measuring tool to discuss several interesting question of one’s hygiene tolerance, lifestyle, status of economy, or even taste. Overall, the series of painting can be viewed as mosaic pattern from afar. However, Trirat sees beauty that lies within them. For he is a keen observer of the people, an artist with an attention to detail, Project Room would like to present ‘Boxes of Life’,a showcase exhibition by Trirat Sriburin.
