Riak-Riak: Ripples and Shadows

G13 Gallery is pleased to present Riak-Riak: Ripples and Shadows, a solo exhibition by our local artist, Juhari Said. In this body of work, Juhari wants to show the beauty and the hidden monstrosity that nature offers when it is not taken care of. Hence, the title of the show – Ripples and Shadows, or Riak-Riak – is a movement and a flow that can be gentle all the way, or otherwise, creating a ripple of destruction in its path.
Juhari puts different mediums and dimensions together – negative woodcuts and positive prints – as one work. The meeting of the 2- and 3-dimensional works shows the intense process in the creation of the prints. The muted colours of the exhibits also blur the boundaries of the different dimensions of the artworks reflected in the monotone nature of sculpted woodcuts and prints. In this exhibition, Juhari plans to show that printmaking is not just about editions, but also about the uniqueness of multiple prints in a single body of work.
