Flush!!!

Sebiji Padi Community

12 - 30 June 2015

An art is a very precious thing given by God to the human beings for thousands of years. Imitation, evolution, develops, experimenting and so on with the art. An artist is a gifted person to bring on ideas to the visual context of communications and expressions to the others. It’s origin and prolonged still in the scholar’s debate and research till today all over the globe.

Malaysia is also in the circle of that matter since the clash of cultures, race and believes. Chronologically, the local art were documented since the existence of civilization such as Kedah Tua, Kota Tampan, Gangga Negara, Langkasuka and the golden age of Malacca Empire. But the influence of Western Modern Art has changed the atmosphere today in Malaysia since the 19th century. We had already went through a few process of maturity on that particular matter, from a Landscape watercolor to a figurative art till to the abstract painting. But up to the early 20th century, artist did not have the complete artistic freedom that they are believe to enjoy today in Europe and over the world. Evolve based on the intensification of Civilization, local artist start to explore to new things according to their contextual experiences and capacity. We are proud of our local Artists, teacher, writer, galleries and Great Masters for their passion, sacrifices, explorations, thought and also their ‘Responsibility’ on the artworks to the society in order to grooming the understanding and splattering the happening of Art Scene with integrity and dignity to what we have today.

“FLUSH!!” seems kind of cleaning verb (act) or verbally wipes out something. Flush in the other hand, means to recon, purifying, decontaminate, exterminating dirt and etc. The simple analogy is like when using a toilet and after that clean it with water pressure to remove the dirt to make it clean like before. “FLUSH!!” in this Exhibition means a lot of perspective, but each of the artists in this exhibition already agreed to work on something for this moment to be presented to the local art lover.

“When I paint, I never think of selling. People simply fail to understand that we paint in order to experiment and to develop ourselves as we strive for greater heights” – Edvard Munch, Norwegian artist

Each of the artists has different approach and method to express their thought, feeling or even an opinion based on their capacity. It is also considered as a ‘Reunification’ of an idea through SEBIJIPADI community. SEBIJIPADI is a collective artist that shared a similarity thought even they are working on each different path. Some of them reflect to the environment such as Art scene, Social commentary, industry or development of local visual art movement. Some of them try to challenging their own barrier to get something else, but eitherway the audiences, collectors and scholars are freely to evaluate the works based on their perspectives.

“The price of a work of art has nothing to do with what the work of art is, can do, or is worth on an existential, alchemical level.” – Jerry Saltz, American art critic.

Being honest to the main purpose for the FLUSH!! Exhibition is to encourage people no matter artists or audiences in a different manner from a normal art situation, to another ‘Level’ or optional (alternative). Either to think, experiential, disagree or even being curios along with the artworks. Art is not just appreciations on a physical beauty and market value for them but also from difference context of perspectives including psychology, technical, relevancy, passion, risk adequate, emotions, experimental and more. As at the edge of this writing, of course the members of SEBIJIPADI also expect something worthy in this beloved country and career.

As a Professional Artists, they (SEBIJIPADI) always think before they act, especially when producing artworks, which will be presented to the public. For this FLUSH!! Exhibition, all of the members already endorsed Manifestos of being an artist as agreed on their internal discussion since 2007 to 2015. It takes 8 years of courage to speak out about the manifestos. Even they already influenced by a lot of artist, great masters, Art Ism, movement and knowledge of their battlefield, that doesn’t meant they agreed with everything. That is why on this serious manner brought them courage to endorse their own manifesto. All of the manifesto are represents SEBIJIPADI community for this FLUSH!!.
