Emerge/Submerge
Duo Exhibition by Haziq Syawal & Nik Mohd Shahfiz
20 July - 3 Aug 2024
G13 is pleased to announce EMERGE/SUBMERGE, a duo exhibition by two contemporary local artists, Haziq Syawal and Nik Mohd Shahfiz. This exhibition invites viewers into a dialogue between Syawal’s meticulously planned compositions, inspired by nature and everyday life, and Shahfiz’s intuitive exploration of memory and pop-surrealist motifs. Through contrasting approaches, both artists delve deep into their respective realms, offering poignant reflections on beauty, impermanence, and the complexities of human experience.

Instinct of Nature (Tiger)
Haziq Syawal
127 x 229cm
Acrylic on Jute
2024
In 'Instinct of Nature (Tiger)', Haziq Syawal captures the enduring spirit of Malaysia through the powerful symbol of the tiger. Referencing the historical title Harimau Malaya, the work evokes national pride and resilience, reflecting a country in motion, developing, evolving, yet rooted in a proud legacy.
The tiger stands not just as a majestic creature of the tropical rainforest, but as a metaphor for strength, courage, and determination. Its poised presence reminds us of Malaysia’s instinct to lead, to rise, and to reclaim its shine on the global stage. Haziq’s portrayal channels both natural instinct and national identity, affirming that the spirit of the tiger remains ever watchful, ever regal.
