Strata” speaks to layers, levels and accumulated time, framing RUMAH KITA as a shared home built gradually rather than in a single moment — shaped by histories, races, beliefs, policies, and continuous negotiation. Like apartments, terraces, informal settlements, and even geological layers of land, these elements exist stacked upon one another: not always orderly, yet fundamentally interdependent. The phrase “Jajar Bertindih” (lined and overlapping) further suggests a condition of enforced closeness, where communities do not merely coexist but overlap, press against one another, and negotiate space under constant pressure. This tension is reflected in the work’s dense, compressed form — heavy, tight, and almost burdened, presenting RUMAH KITA not as an idealized vision of home, but as a lived structure shaped by endurance, compromise, and resilience.
