Viewing Room: Between Spaces
G13 Gallery is pleased to present Between Spaces, an online duo exhibition by Caryn Koh and Wong Ming Hao. A total of 13 artworks by the two contemporary artists are displayed online at the G13 Gallery website. Between Spaces emphasises the interaction between the paintings by two artists with different art styles, but conveying the same inner thoughts, self-emotion during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Caryn displays a new series of paintings that centres around a constant feeling of loneliness, which is experienced by many of us during this pandemic. Despite a pastel and soft colour tone is used in her paintings, the feeling of being locked up and loneliness can still convey through them. We can notice the sense of isolation in the body language and facial expression of the figure painting. This series of artworks focuses more on “self” and that particular feeling when one’s inner world goes quiet.
Ming Hao uses his face and figure as the subject matter with the acrylic paint-skins collage technique in his paintings presented in the exhibition. Acrylic paint-skins indicates the real personality behind the masks, especially when we are now in a situation where most people can only communicate and know each other via social media. People are obsessed with the virtual world. We might somehow try to get away from it, but end up we are still stuck in it. Ming Hao used himself as the model in this series of works, as he came across this situation too during the pandemic.
Between Spaces runs from 11 to 25 August 2021 @ g13gallery.com
