Artist Statement
‘Thinking about You’ portrays multiple figures being stacked together in a square. The subject matter used is a number of contortionists filling up a box. The figures are done using charcoal to perhaps emphasize and dramatize the act through the play of light and shadow on the subject. The red dot on the bottom left side of the drawing is painted using Cinnabar. Cinnabar is red or orange-ish mineral which is known for its color and mercury content.
The artist wishes to convey that lust can be the death of mankind. Not necessarily in pertaining to sexual desire per se but also the hunger for endless wealth and the dominance of power. The red dot represents the hazardous quality that could ruin the entirety of humanity. The dot is purposely placed in random part of the painting and not to censor certain part of the subject which can be deemed sensitive to some. Meanwhile, the multiple subjects who filled up the tiny square are there perhaps to emphasize on the struggle and tension both visually and contextually.

The Tribulation of St. Anthony is a re- invision of a vision. It is inspired from the story of saint Anthony, popularly known in many famous painting attributed to his story “the temptation of saint Anthony.” My role here as a painter especially on this particular piece is not to give meaning but to contemplate and transfer the images from my vision to the canvas. in fact, its hard to give “interpretation” or “meaning” if the painting comes from a vision. Sometimes the images that I used is not enough to describe what I saw from from my vision.
Lets say I just have a vision and this is what I saw, and I paint the images as long as I remember it. The nailing of feet is used for executions example crucifixion etc. For me its a permanent involvement in a situation. The missing hand is actually not missing, its just a part of the composition. If I will interpret this painting, I think its a soul trapped in situation where the tribulation penetrates the inner peace. The only way to get out is to utter your faith which leads to salvation, that is why there a tongue and fire on the upper part of the figure.
