The works that I made for Axis by Praxis are paintings that belong to the Time Stain series.
These are random scenes and objects that capture my attention especially when in transit. By painting these subjects, I attempt to investigate the environment’s relation to us, its inhabitants, and how their own state of degradation reflect the passage of time and our own histories. The specificity of each place and/or an object triggers different memories in each of us bridging familiarity and unfamiliarity. These subjects are our portraits. The narratives they hold are ours.
Placed all over each work are biomorphic shapes with painted representation of rust to indicate time passing and decay as a natural occurrence and are experienced by everyone. Rust has been a common interest of mine being both a subject and material to some of my fabric works and installations. The subjects are rendered in black and white to lessen its specificity and to serve more as a broad memory.

These days, it is common to depend on someone else for support to gain easy access on the pursuit of success rather than to be confidence in one’s own ability. We opt to believe that those supports we rely on are bigger, better and stronger than we are. That fear of failure and dependency will eventually kill off one’s self-esteem and it will drown one, little by little.
My painting portrays those who think they are weak and unable to be independent in life specifically not believing on their own talent.
Little that they know, this thing they called dilemma is not really one. I believe every one of us may go through this situation at least once in their life. But worst part is, it begin to become a common practice in our society, especially when it comes to pursuing one’s dream.

There are always choices in whatever we do in our life; whether choosing your favorite color, or way of life and etcetera. In each path or choice we partake, there are certain secrets or specific reasons behind all of chosen paths which unfortunately beyond our understanding and control.
